Heaviest Insect
The heaviest insects are the goliath beetles (family Scarabaeidae) of equatorial Africa. Goliath regius, G. meleagris, G. goliathus (=G. giganteus), and G. druryi are the largest. In measurements of one series of males (females are smaller), the lengths from the tips of the small frontal horns to the end of the abdomen were up to 4.3 in (11cm), with weights of 2.5-3.5 oz (70-100 g).
