The two closely related species of blue-ringed octopus hapalochlaena maculosa and H. lunulata (left)-found around the coasts of Australia and parts of Southest Asia-carry a nuerotoxic venom so potent that thier relatively painless bite can kill a human in matter measures just 4 in (10 cm) in length, carries sufficient venom to cause the paralysis (or even death) of 10 adult people.
